Daily flights on the route will begin at 11.15pm on Tuesday, with passengers to land in Singapore at 5.15am local time.

The new services mean travellers will also be able to fly into the ACT from Singapore each day, landing in the capital at 10.20pm after a 70-minute stopover in Sydney.

Singapore Airlines regional vice president Philip Goh said the airline had swapped out the Boeing 777-200s it previously used for Canberra flights, replacing them with Boeing 777-300ERs that gave Canberra Airport passengers access to first class and premium economy for the first time.

Four of the 264 seats on the new planes are in first class, with 48 in business class, 28 in premium economy and 184 in economy class.

“The introduction of the new premium cabins, combined with lie-flat business class seats and the move to a daily service, will ensure the ACT and surrounding region is provided with a choice of premium travel options,” Mr Goh said.

The changes come after Singapore Airlines scrapped its "capital express" route, ending direct flights from Canberra Airport to the New Zealand capital Wellington less than two years after they began.

They also follow the February launch of flights between Canberra Airport and Doha, via Sydney.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr said those services had streamlined travel for Canberrans visiting the Middle East and Europe, and boosted tourism in the ACT.

"Already, these services have contributed to record numbers of international visitors to our city, boosting our tourism industry, which now employs over 16,000 Canberrans," he said.

Mr Barr said the ACT government was now focused on working with Canberra Airport to establish links with China, which was Canberra's top tourism market, and Auckland, which would improve access to North America.
