The RSPCA's annual Million Paws Walk on May 20 attracted nearly 4000 people and their dogs with hundreds of people even dressing up like their furry best friend.
While the attempt to smash the world record for "largest gathering of people dressed as dogs" was not successful this year, it wasn't for a lack of fun and effort.
RSPCA ACT CEO Tammy Ven Dange said it was rewarding to re-meet dogs now with loving families who had come into the centre severely traumatised after suffering abuse.
One dog present was rescued by the RSPCA three years ago suffering from broken legs.
Its then owner was prosecuted over the abuse earlier this year while the dog is now re-homed and loving life with its new family.
"Seeing some of the rescue dogs that our inspectors have brought in and then been re-homed was really a highlight," Ms ven Dange said.
"About a fifth of the animals coming in come from the inspectors and most have high needs.
"You see them come in terrified and in the most horrible conditions you could imagine.
"Then to see they are in such a happy place and you wouldn't even know by looking at them what they've been through is so rewarding."
The walk is the RSPCA's biggest fundraising event, helping it re-home hundreds of dogs.
"Eighty five-per-cent of our funding comes from community itself," Ms ven Dange said.
"All that money goes back into the shelter, helping us look out for animals that need help whether they are abandoned, neglected, abused or lost."
