Drug trafficking charges laid as police seize $1.5 million in assets

Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said police executed 15 raids spanning the territory, netting more than $100,000 in cash, six vehicles, a gun and ammunition, drugs, a house, bank accounts and jewellery.

The drugs seized included cocaine, MDMA, cannabis and anabolic steroids.

One of the men also faces drug importation charges, while a sixth man was arrested in Sydney and will be extradited to the ACT in the coming days to face trafficking charges.

Detective Superintendent Moller said while the value of the seizures was significant, the most pleasing aspect was the arrests his officers had made.

"They were significant players in an organised crime syndicate," he said.

"They had a very large network of customers right across the ACT."

Detective Superintendent Moller said the investigation, which is part of Operation Tribulation, had been running for years and remained ongoing, with further arrests and financial seizures possible.

The operation had also involved NSW Police, the Australian Taxation Office and various agencies in Australia and overseas, he said.

"We are committed not only to prosecuting offenders, but to stripping them of their wealth and any assets derived from serious and organised crime," he said.

"That's why the majority of these significant players in organised crime syndicates are involved in this business - because of the money."

Detective Superintendent Moller said the weekend's raids would have a major impact on organised crime in the ACT, sounding a warning to anyone else involved in the trafficking or supply of drugs.

"If you're selling drugs in Canberra, either myself or one of my team will be knocking on your door," he said.
