Molan, who was born in Canberra and began her career in the capital before hosting the Footy Show, encouraged everyone to get involved.

"I'm certainly not the most athletic or talented or anything, but I'll give anything a go," the "proudest Canberran" said, adding there was no better place than the capital to get out and exercise.

"I want to see every single person in Canberra down [at the fun run], and then then I want everyone come to the pub with me and watch the Raiders play the Tigers."

Molan said father Jim would likely join her walking the course.

Molan has chosen to raise money for Bowel Cancer Australia, for which she is also an ambassador. Her older sister Sarah Sutton was diagnosed with the disease and Molan has worked to raise awareness ever since.

But she said she's more a walker than a runner, and you don't have to be super fit or find hours to train to compete in the Canberra Times Fun Run.

"I used to run five kilometres on the treadmill every morning for years and years and years," she said "[But] for the past year I just deadset worked every single hour of every single day, it's ridiculous."

She said she finds it easier to train when working towards a goal like the fun run, or when she took part in the Sydney to Hobart race.

Her training for the run includes getting on an inclined treadmill a few times a week with shoulder presses and biceps curls while walking.

Joining Molan as ambassador is former Raiders captain Tongue.

"It's a great privilege to be a part of this Canberra event and I'm looking forward to getting out and about in Canberra with the family," he said.

"Fitness and health was obviously important during my rugby league career, so I'm looking forward to dads joining me and celebrating Father's Day in the best possible way."

Entrants can save up to $20 on fees and take advantage of new early bird family package deals by registering before July 12.

Single adult tickets start at $30, and prices for children under 15 are available from $20. Or people can buy two adult tickets and register their first child under 15 for free.

Participants who sign up before midnight on July 12 will also go in the draw to win two Singapore Airlines flights, valued at $5000.

With fundraising, people can either be a "hero" for their favourite charity, make a one-off donation when completing their event entry or supporters can sponsor a friend who is participating. People in the 2015 Canberra Times Fun Run raised more than $79,000 for almost 40 charities.

The run is on Father's Day, Sunday, September 4.
