Police believe speed was a factor in a crash that killed a man on the Monaro Highway on Thursday morning.

The 29-year-old driver from Calwell died after his car crashed into the back of a truck parked on the side of the road, police said.
He was the sole occupant of the car.
The crash happened on a northbound section of the highway near Gilmore about 5.45am.
ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire and Rescue were also called to the scene.
Traffic diversions were in place in both directions and the highway was closed between Johnson Drive and Isabella Drive.
All lanes of the highway were reopened by 1pm.
ACT Policing Sergeant Symone Wilson, who is acting officer in charge of traffic operations, said it was too early to say what caused the crash.
"We believe speed was a factor, however that's going to form part of our investigation."
Police will also investigate whether there was anyone in the truck at the time of the crash, and whether wet road conditions played a part.
The man's family has been notified and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
It is the seventh fatal crash on ACT roads this year. The road toll for 2014 was 10.
Police said two earlier deaths this year were no longer counted in the territory's official road toll, as they have been attributed to medical conditions.
The crash prompted Sergeant Wilson to urge motorists to take care behind the wheel.
"The roads are wet and slippery at this time of year so we urge drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions."
