Total fire ban for the ACT for Sunday

The fire forecast rating is expected to be upgraded from "very high" to "severe" on Sunday, with an expected top of 37 degrees and north-westerly winds of 25km/h to 40km/h.

Electric barbecues in the territory's urban parks and the National Arboretum will continue to operate, but gas barbecues will be switched off.

Meanwhile, firefighters managed to keep a Mount Clear bushfire, about 14 kilometres from the Monaro Highway, under control on Saturday.

An ESA spokeswoman said the blaze, which covers about 47 hectares, had failed to break containment lines and Rural Fire Service firefighters remained on the scene.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level for this fire is set at "advice" which means members of the public should seek out and monitor information about the fire.

The bushfire, now into its fourth day, was sparked by lightning on Wednesday night.

The following nature reserves and roads will be closed on Sunday as a result of the fire ban:

The Tidbinbilla and Namadgi visitors' centres will remain open, as will swimming areas at the Cotter and along the Murrumbidgee River such as Kambah Pool, Pine Island Point Hut and Uriarra Crossing.
