Firefighters continue to monitor the smoking remains of a fire that burnt out about 80 football fields of land near the recycling centre in West Belconnen on Friday.

An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokesman said the pallet fire had all but "fizzled out" following last week's fire but one tanker remained on site on Monday morning to extinguish any flare-ups.
The fire, which began in a large pile of wooden pallets and quickly spread to nearby grass about 2pm, forced the evacuation of the Parkwood industrial estate and burnt several hundred metres from homes in Macgregor.
Smoke from the fire was visible over parts of Belconnen, with earlier reports of thick smoke covering Latham and Kippax.
None of the horses at the Parkwood Horse Holding Paddocks were injured in the fire.
A waterbombing helicopter and ground crews brought the fire under control about 4.30pm.
Crews worked throughout the weekend to turn the large, smouldering pile over with excavators and bulldozers.
