Paramedics assessed one person at the scene in Dale Circuit, Kambah, but did not take anyone to hospital.
Emergency services were called to the fire, which was contained to a detached garage, at 7.05pm.
Dale Street was closed as a precaution while firefighters worked to put the blaze out.
The fire prompted ACT Fire and Rescue to remind residents that heaters should be kept well clear of items that might burn.
Clothes, bedding, furniture, curtains and other combustibles must be kept at least one metre from heaters.
