1. Take her back to her teenage years.
If your mum’s like mine, she grew up in the era of seven-inch vinyl singles, with posters of a certain boy band wearing tartan flares plastered on her bedroom walls.
The Canberra Southern Cross Club has two ripper concerts coming up that’ll take mum right back to painting her nails on the bedroom floor.
The boys from 10cc - think I’m Not in Love and The Things We Do For Love - are performing in Woden the night before Mother’s Day on May 12. And 70s Scottish heartthrobs the Bay City Rollers, of I Only Wanna Be With You fame, are on in early July. For tickets head to www.cscc.com.au
2. Say g’day to your mum for me!
That’s the thing about Rove McManus - mum loves him just as much as I do.
With classic segments like ‘What the’, ‘Hughesy Loses It’ and ‘Two Minutes at Your Place’, it was hard for the whole family not to fall in love with the cheeky Aussie comedian back when he debuted on our screens on Rove Live in 2000.
Now, Australia’s favourite television son is headed to Canberra for a rare stand-up comedy performance in The Spiegeltent late next week.

3. Have breakfast with 200 alpacas.
Have you ever wondered what alpacas do first thing in the morning? (I know I have.) What does an alpaca eat for breakfast? Why is their fleece considered the “fibre of the Gods”? And the most burning question of them all - what even is the difference between an alpaca and a llama?
If you’ve had enough high teas and champagne brunches to last a lifetime, get up close and personal with a herd of over 200 alpacas and llamas instead. A perfect excursion to take the grandkids too as well, with the whole family allowed to feed the alpacas their morning treats. Cute!

4. Now you see it, now you ... might want to cover your eyes.
So Puppetry of the Penis was the naughty theatre show of the noughties and now it seems the newest cheeky theatre fad is magicians …. without pants. Or any clothes, really. The Naked Magicians are coming to Canberra in early July to perform a series of "saucy" tricks. But if they're left without sleeves or pockets, where do they pull the scarves from?
Might want to check with dad before you grab mum a couple of tickets to this show. Or not.

5. Bling it up at Diamonds for Lunch.
Go behind the scenes of the National Gallery's Cartier: The Exhibition by having lunch with the hilarious and incredibly knowledgeable Simeran Maxwell, coordinating curator of the exhibition.
Does the Queen or Elizabeth Taylor have the biggest collection of Cartier? And what 'special thing' did they do to the Cartier necklaces before Dame Nellie Melba wore them on stage? Simeran spent the past two years working on the exhibition and has secrets to die for.
