The Emergency Services Agency said crews were called to the home on the corner of Lady Nelson Place and Cygnet Crescent about 2.15pm after neighbours called Triple Zero.
"The food on the stove caught alight and the smoke alarm went off," the agency said in a statement.
"There is little damage to the home but it could have been worse, if not for the working smoke alarm."
