The eight-part mystery thriller tells the story of Anna Macy, played by Elizabeth Debicki, who leaves her home town at 14 shortly after her best friend disappears.
She returns 15 years later, and theories and rumours still persist about what happened to the girl, from Anna killing her to alien abduction.
While the show is set in Tasmania, the main men are played by Matthew Le Nevez, well-known for playing Dr Patrick Reid on Offspring, and Henry Nixon – who both spent their school years in Canberra.
Nixon's family moved to a 16-hectare property in Burra when he was young, and he went on to study at the former AME School, then Red Hill Primary, Canberra Grammar and Narrabundah College, before moving to Sydney to study at NIDA.
Nixon describes The Kettering Incident as, "Broadchurch meets X-Files meets Twin Peaks meets The Bridge".
In the show, he plays Senior Constable Fergus McFadden, who has recently stepped up into a higher position and has to investigate some of the mysterious goings on.
It's a character, he says, who is "basically my mother".
"Not that he's a woman in his late 60s working at Queanbeyan Private Nursing Home," he laughs.
"In the sense that he's incredibly moral and always does the right thing. Which can be frustrating of course at times."
As well as asking himself, "what would my mother do in this situation", Nixon has a wealth of on-screen cop experience to draw on having played one in Underbelly Files: Infiltration, in film Scumbus, in ABC's Rake, and in Abe Forsythe's new black comedy-drama Down Under.
"You'd think I'd be nearing New South Wales state commissioner by now."
The Kettering Incident will air on Foxtel from July 4.
