They provide a relaxed, home-like environment for women to give birth, with support.
Friends of the Birth Centres is a local group for families who have been through the experience.
It held its annual get-together of parents and bubs and older children at Weston Park on Friday and launched its 2017 calendar.
The calendar is a mix of professional and contributed shots from the moment of birth to midwives to babies.
Group spokeswoman Jessica Lamb, who had Walter, six, and Morris, three, at the Canberra Hospital birth centre said the calendars were fundraisers to buy items for the centres.
"The more home-y things like music and fitballs and things like that," she said.
"The centres are really about giving women a choice on how they want to give birth."
The calendars cost $15 and are available via their website.
