Mr Humphries has been appointed chair of RSPCA Australia's board of directors.
The former ACT Chief Minister said streamlining existing animal welfare campaigns would be on the agenda when he steps into the role.
"I want to build on the respect Australians already accord the RSPCA for its principled leadership in animal welfare issues and consolidate the important campaigns it runs in areas such as live animal exports, use of whips in racing and cage-free egg farming," he said.
"The RSPCA's strong science-based positions and policies ensure it continues to provide evidence-based solutions to key animal welfare issues, and I am certainly looking forward to being part of that."
Mr Humphries, who is also deputy president of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, will lead a board of 10 directors.
He was among three new people appointed to the board including non-executive director and legal consultant Deborah Hambleton and medical practitioner Dr Richard Russell.
