Googong has become the first community in the Canberra region to be recognised with a five-star rating for sustainable development from the property industry.

The township has been awarded the Green Building Council of Australia's first 5 Star Green Star – Communities rating in the ACT and NSW region.
The rating took into account the town's rapid uptake of technologies including water cycle management system, energy conservation and fibre to the home broadband.
Googong project director Malcolm Leslie said the rating was a major milestone and endorsement of Googong Township Pty Limited's approach to future proofing the development.
"Sustainability and helping residents to live in a strong and vital setting are key elements we've been focusing on since the beginning of this project," he said.
"Being the first community in the region to achieve this rating is terrific validation of our vision and hard work."
Council chief executive Romilly Madew said the town's sustainable features would inspire other developers to incorporate similar innovations in their planning.
"It's great to see smarter thinking around environmental challenges and greater innovation in the way the community creation is now unfolding," she said.
