Green Savvy Sunday is a themed event, bringing out the best qualities in growers, designers, manufacturers and buyers.
Many want to make the world a more ethical place, so the focus is on local and eco-friendly goods that are healthy, gorgeous and fun too.
Old Bus Depot Markets director Morna Whiting was excited about the array of low-energy alternatives and environmentally sound options on offer.
"You can discover the latest in green technology for the home, buy specialist green or sustainable products, and speak to a variety of agencies and companies about what programs, assistance and products they provide to the community and householders," she said.
"It's also about teaching the next generation the importance of using recycled materials and that beautiful things can be individually handcrafted rather than mass-produced and made of brightly coloured plastic."
Macgregor resident Kathryn Scobie is among those showing visitors how to reduce their food miles by cultivating their own produce and adapting to local conditions.
"I'm really looking forward to chatting with people about growing their own food that is best suited to the Canberra climate," she said.
Her business services include providing advice on where to put fruit and vegetables in the garden to full permaculture design for an entire property or portion of a yard.
Among the many displays is an initiative that transforms old suitcases and boxes into delightful doll's houses.
David Tynan and Marisa Martin are even making little bus shelters, in keeping with their surroundings.
In a similar vein, Carol Mead works with old and used dolls that have been thrown out or given to her, giving them a "make-under" by switching high heels for track shoes and glamorous outfits for regular children's wear.
The result is toys that reinforce positive body images among boys and girls while helping to rescue pre-loved items.
From salvaged and upcycled furniture to lighting designs that incorporate vintage kimono materials, the stalls promise a sustainable treasure trove of choices.
The markets are open on Sunday from 10am to 4pm in Kingston.
