Greenway playground partially closed due to vandalism

"The steel cables which anchor the large climbing net were cut, possibly with an angle grinder," place management manager Jane Carder said.

"As a result of the damage, the piece of equipment has been fenced off and will remain so until it can be repaired."

Ms Carder was "very disappointed" members of the Canberra community damaged a public playground, stressing repairs can be costly and "the community will be without a popular play item for some time".

It is important for families to report this behaviour, she said, especially as it is getting close to school holidays.

"Vandalism is a burden on the ACT government budget and means resources need to be directed away from other important services," she said.

"Reporting this behaviour makes a difference."

An ACT Policing spokesperson agreed the community has an important role in assisting police with suspicious or criminal behaviour in their area.

"It is extremely disappointing and upsetting to see these acts of vandalism occurring in our community," the spokesperson said.

"The people involved in this incident have shown complete disregard for the property they have damaged."
