The tree toppled behind a block of flats on Irvine Street about 12.20pm, startling residents.

Edward Doherty, who lives in the flats, said he heard a loud thud as the tree came down.
He said nobody was injured, but the tree had crushed two cars, including one that had been parked under a car port.

"It was quite close to where people are. If it had've been five metres closer to the apartments, it would've hit the building," Mr Doherty said.
"There was no wind. It just fell over out of nowhere."
