Personal relationship mentor and love coach Emily Chadbourne is calling on the single ladies of Canberra to join her for a workshop this Saturday to cover attraction, self love, and cutting the BS when it comes to finding "the one".
Chadbourne, a practitioner of neuro-linguistic programming, promises an "honest, refreshing and hilarious" workshop where attendees "take a good hard look at themselves and accept themselves for who they are".
We asked Chadbourne for the top things women are doing wrong in their search for love. Here's what she said.
1. You're not clear on what you want.
"I literally speak to hundreds of women looking for love. And I ask them all the same question: 'what are you looking for?' Almost every answer is vague.
"If you walked into a shoe shop and asked the assistant to help you find the perfect pair of shoes for your mate Caz's wedding, you'd expect the assistant to ask you some questions right? Like, 'what dress are you wearing?' and 'do you have a colour or style in mind?'
"The assistant won't be able to help if all you do is stare blankly at her and say 'oh, just some shoes to make me feel good'. She'll roll her eyes, sigh and continue to offer you shoe after shoe to try, none of which will be appropriate.
"It's the same mistake you're making when it comes to finding love! Know what you want before you shop!"
2. You have 'sniper' mentality.
"Another classic mistake I see is women who make finding 'the one' a project. It's like they set out to find a husband and it becomes their sole mission.
"They start approaching every social engagement with one focus – to pick up. And so instead of enjoying the party, they begin to rank the 'success' of their evening based on whether they went home with a guy's number.
"They turn into snipers whose mission is to hone in on individual men to see if they can shoot them down and take them home."
