Fire managers and firefighters will burn about 13 hectares of vegetation at Umbagong District Park, east of Florey Drive, from 11am to about 5pm.
The service will also use the burn to assess and train some of its firefighters.
A spokesman said Canberrans with asthma or other chronic respiratory or cardiac diseases should avoid vigorous exercise and stay inside if affected by smoke.
He said every effort was made to conduct burns in weather conditions that minimised the impact of smoke on residents.
The spokesman said staff would continue to monitor the burn site until smoke had not been visible for 24 hours.
