Heritage-listed Old Linton in Yass undergoes Selling Houses Australia makeover

Now, the grand Old Linton in Yass has undergone a makeover fit for a king thanks to some of the country's most recognisable property experts.

The team behind the LifeStyle Channel's Selling Houses Australia, including host and real estate expert Andrew Winter, interior design extraordinaire and The Block judge Shaynna Blaze and landscape designer Charlie Albone, have focused their property prowess on key areas inside and outside the heritage-listed mansion.

"This property, we're hoping, will appeal to someone who has a little bit of commercial foresight," Winter said.

"[The Old Linton] could combine someone's home and a conference business, accommodation business, wedding venue business – anything like that – but it needs big money thrown at it."

The Old Linton was originally the home of of legendary sheep baron Arthur Bryant Triggs and over the years has operated as a war veterans' home, a wedding venue and a private residence.

The property has been on the market for a number of years and, with the help of the television show, will return to the market in March with added gusto.

The mansion's front facade has undergone a drastic change, from cream to an eye-catching grey-blue with white trims.

Blaze remained tight-lipped on the interior facelift, which will undergo a big reveal in April, but said she had created "lots of drama".

"We've never done anything like this on the show so for me [the ballroom] was an absolute highlight, I literally got goose bumps walking into the room," she said.

"The kitchen's a big change. That was just a very old timber cottage-type kitchen and now it's something – I won't give it away – but very grand."

The challenge was making the property sellable while remaining sympathetic to its historical roots.

"The home owner wasn't that happy about a lot of my choices but that's fine and I totally get that because it's his baby," she said.

"We are after specific buyers, specific buyers that want something that's going to be dramatic, that is sellable, that is memorable so, I've actually gone pretty OTT [over the top]."

Current owners Stephe and Karina Jetts have continued living in their home of 11 years throughout the renovation and filming of the program – even during a two-day power outage.

Mrs Jetts said she was ecstatic about the changes whereas for her husband, the author of a book on the Old Linton's history, the facelift sparked mixed feelings.

"He has an emotional attachment to the heritage of the house and the stories of the people behind it so, he was keen to see some things retained," she said.

One such change was Albone's outdoor work.

"The tricky parts are when you try to marry old and new. Dealing with old buildings can be hard ... you have to work with things that are falling apart.

"The heat in Yass was pretty tricky as well, I must say."

Selling Houses Australia airs on Wednesdays at 8.30pm on Foxtel's The LifeStyle Channel. The makeover of Old Linton is set to air in April.
