Thousands of people filled Regatta Point for the ACT government's Australia Day in the Capital concert.
The event - the government's answer to the cancellation of the usual concert at Parliament House - offered bands, food stalls, a visit from an MRH90 and, of course, fireworks.
Indie rockers British India headlined the concert supported by the Choir of Hard Knocks, Hands Like Houses and Young Monks.
Candice Nurtney, a Canberra local, took her family to the event because she was keen to see the fireworks show. Her sister Megan, visiting from Alice Springs, spent the day at a barbecue.
"It's mostly just a day to hang out with your friends," Megan said of Australia Day.
Their mother Helene said Australia Day was a chance to celebrate Australians making contributions to the nation. "It's good to celebrate it for all the things that happen," she said.
Canberrans Sarah Xu and Scott Siver also enjoyed a picnic at Regatta Point as they waited for the fireworks.
The pair enjoyed a quiet day off from work - a real reason to rejoice.
"It's a celebration of free time," Mr Siver said.
"I didn't do any special introspection."
Earlier in the day, plenty of families headed to Yarralumla to enjoy the live music hosted by fish and chip shop Snapper.
Belconnen woman Kerryn Ernst had special cause to celebrate after receiving a Public Service Medal for her work as the McGrath Foundation's Canberra nurse.
But she'd be celebrating anyway, she said, as was family tradition.
"We celebrate everything that's great about Australia, to appreciate everything we've got in Australia and how lucky we are," she said.
"There's no threats of anything."
