'I never saw her complain' - Tara Costigan's co-workers walk in her honour

Thousands of people are expected to head to Lake Burley Griffin on Sunday morning to remember Tara, a 28-year-old mother of three who was killed last month.

She was one of three deaths allegedly due to domestic violence in the ACT in the past month.

BaptistCare Home Care Services manager Iris Malone, who supervised Tara, said she was a committed staff member who often did multiple jobs at once to support her family as a single mother.

"Since she came to work with us quite continually we got good reports about her from her clients on an ongoing basis," she said.

"She was a hard worker, very fond of her boys, very very fond of her boys and ecstatic to have a little girl, even if it was only for eight days."

Mrs Malone will be joining 55 of Tara's co-workers at the Walk For Tara on Sunday, remembering their co-worker and taking a stand against domestic violence in Australia.

She said she first met Tara in about 2010 when she was working at her local hairdresser. "She wasn't entirely happy with the job she was doing... and I encouraged her, myself and my other staff, [to] come in and work with us if she was unhappy," she said.

"So eventually she did that."

Mrs Malone said Tara was a bubbly and friendly co-worker, with a good sense of humour, and her death had left her fellow carers distraught.

"She was always just happy, seemed to always make the best of whatever she had," she said. "I never saw her complain."

BaptistCare Home Services general manager Annette Hili, who will also be walking on Sunday, said her organisation worked hard to prevent violence against women and their children. "Tara's death has [reinforced] with us all once again that violence destroys families and ruins lives," she said.

The first Walk For Tara will start at 10.30am on Sunday, at the base of Regatta Point, Commonwealth Park West on RG Menzies Walk.
