But prosecutors asked how unlucky one of the men would have to be to be picked out by two witnesses in a photo line-up. They urged the members to use their common sense and look at all the pieces of evidence they had heard, together which would "easily support the weight of the Crown case".

Reece Salcedo, 20, and Nathan Brian Stretton, 23, are accused of breaking into the Matson Street house in Gordon on February 10 last year and shooting two people, including a 13-year-old girl in the buttocks and back.

The pair deny involvement and have pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated burglary, intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm, threatening to cause grievous bodily harm and using a threatening weapon in circumstances likely to endanger human life.

The ACT Supreme Court trial has heard that moments before the home invasion, the man who lived at the Gordon house had been in a driving confrontation with a woman named Cassie Ogle. Ms Ogle and the man had once dealt the drug ice together but there was now bad blood between the pair over money.

During the driving incident, the man reached in and took Ms Ogle's keys from the ignition of her car before driving off, leaving her stranded on the road.

Prosecutors contend Ms Ogle dispatched Mr Salcedo and Mr Stretton, her boyfriend at the time, to the Gordon house to collect her keys.

Prosecutor Anthony Williamson said the 13-year-old victim's mother, who was home during the break-in, had picked out both accused in a photo board. She expressed an emotional reaction on seeing the photo of Mr Salcedo, Mr Williamson said. "That's powerful evidence," he said.

He said both the man and woman had picked out Mr Stretton among the photos. "What are the chances that two witnesses mistakenly identified him?" he asked.

Mr Williamson also said Mr Salcedo had a red Holden Commodore ute and on the night of the home invasion, a neighbour saw a red Holden Commodore ute left running on the street, before hearing a gunshot and seeing two men return to the car, do a burnout and speed away.

Mr Williams also pointed to gunshot residue found in the car, as well as phone records that showed at least five phone calls between Mr Salcedo and Ms Ogle in the minutes before the home invasion, and nothing after.

Moments after the phone calls between Mr Salcedo and Ms Ogle, he said, the man and girl are shot at the Gordon home by two men over a dispute about keys.

Mr Salcedo’s barrister James Stewart said the man who lived at the Gordon home was an ice dealer. It was a home where things like people with a gun barging in might happen, he said. “This is not some innocent house,” he told the jury, “they didn’t break into a nativity scene.”

He said the frightening situation the victims found themselves in was one of the worst circumstances for trying to make a facial identification.

The barrister said the alleged male shooting victim had given evidence about one of the intruders being a five foot nine man with a bigger build.

Mr Stewart referred to his client sitting in court.

“He’s a tot,” Mr Stewart said, “little more than a jockey."

In his closing address, the barrister for Mr Stretton, Richard Davies said the alleged male victim had told police he’d be unlikely to identify the invaders, that he didn’t know them from a “bar of soap”.

The woman too, he said, told police she hadn't seen one of the men very well during the invasion, and wasn't "one hundred per cent" sure about his identification. She said she wasn't even going to try with the other man.

Mr Davies said both the man and woman were asked to identify the two intruders from a photo board some two months after the home invasion.

The woman described one of the intruders as having a "ratty" or a rat's tail in his hair, Mr Davies said, but the court had heard Mr Stretton never had one.
