Canberrans interested in the development application process in the ACT have until June to get their submissions in to a new inquiry launched in the Legislative Assembly.

The Assembly's Planing and Urban Renewal Committee on Thursday announced the inquiry, which will focus on the nature of the city's residents "engagement" with the development application process.
Chaired by Greens MLA Caroline Le Couteur, the wide-raning inquiry will examine the community's involvement with the DA process, including how DAs are publicised and signage on relevant sites, the DA Finder app and online information.
It will also investigate the increasing level of pre-DA consultation developers are undertaking with the community about their proposal and the availability of historical DA information, which are currently not publicly archived online.
The inquiry will also look at the effectiveness of the territory's overall DA processes, including the three-prong "track system" which applications are divided into, processing times, the electronic lodgement system, appeal processes and heritage, tree protection and environmental assessments.
The committee will also look interstate at similar processes other Australian planning systems use, with a report due by the last Assembly sitting day in November this year.
