More employers are seeking to put people on, the latest figures from umbrella recruitment group Manpower showed.
The ACT had the second highest net employment outlook out of all states and territories, their quarterly report revealed.
About 14 per cent of ACT employers anticipated an increase in employment in the past quarter, an improvement of 4 per cent on the same time last year.
Canberra's mushrooming information technology sector buoyed job prospects in the capital this quarter, with recruiters reporting a "healthy number" of labour hire requests coming through from the public and private sector.
"It is a great time to be a job seeker in the ACT if you have skills in the IT sector, especially if you hold a valid security clearance," James Armstrong, director of IT recruitment firm Greythorn Australia, said.
"Recent key ICT strategies and programs from both government and consequently the large service providers we work closely with are driving heightened demand. The uptick from this is a positive increase year on year on hiring requirements for the ACT."
Mr Armstrong said they were seeing an increase in large IT transformation projects being undertaken in the Canberra region.
"Specifically, businesses are looking to shape their digital offering, transition to Cloud and Hybrid Cloud, use Data Analytics and Business Intelligence platforms, especially with the rate data getting generated," Mr Armstrong said.
"There is also a big push towards agile development processes, essentially automating and speeding up the entire development process, including change and release management.
"Mobility is a major player and with that the security for end point devices, which is putting an increasing emphasis on data protection. As such, this is driving demand for skills and talent in this area."
For those already employed in the sector, Mr Armstrong said the scramble to find the talent to take on these digital infrastructure projects could mean lucrative inducements to stay in your current role.
"Due to limited available talent in the IT sector it is essential for employers to retain key ICT talent and expertise in the current market. The transition to Cloud is redefining a number of IT roles and skill sets," Mr Armstrong said.
"It will come down to the agility of employers' recruitment and on-boarding processes that will determine who acquires the limited available talent."
