Why do I let people talk me into things? Because sometimes I'm a sucker for a good cause. So, for the next 12 weeks I'm taking part in the Heart Foundation's Canberra Celebrity Heart Challenge. For me, it's the challenge part. I'm hardly a celebrity. Chief Minister Andrew Barr can wear that tag, or perhaps Kirsten and Rod from MIX106.3 or Catherine Carter from the Property Council. But not little old me.

For me it's about finding time for exercise in an increasingly busy life and adopting some healthier eating habits in the hope that I can a) get healthier (and actually work out what that means to me) and b) raise some money for the Heart Foundation.
Last year's BIggest Heart was Melissa Gelonese, the manager of the Canberra Raiders cheer squad and owner of Entourage productions. She raised more than $9300 during the three-month challenge.
If you're feeling generous dear reader, donate. And thank you. I'll try the best I can to raise some funds. (But don't get me started on people who want to crowd fund their South American walking holiday by doing it for breast cancer). I'm happy to admit my main goal is a selfish one. I want to change aspects of my life. And here, in this weekly column, I'll update you on my progress, and that of the other 14 contestants, with handy hints and tips about how you can do the same – and the best for your heart.
Heart Foundation ACT chief executive Tony Stubbs reminds us that heart disease is the biggest killer of men and women in the territory and about two-thirds of Canberrans are overweight or obese.
I am one of them. And that's going to change.
