Kingsborough will contain more than 150 units divided between five buildings, as new development in the area continues to spread towards The Causeway.

Construction Control Canberra has lodged a development application with the ACT Planning and Land Authority to subdivide the land at the south-east end of the foreshore between Parbery Street and The Causeway.

The land has been split into seven blocks, all encompassed within the village, with plans for residential and commerce space among five.

There are no fixed plans for the other two blocks, which will be developed at a later date.

Kingsborough will contain 157 two and three-bedroom units spread among two to three-storey terrace buildings and six-storey apartment blocks.

Developer John Gasson said a series of modules in one of the buildings, the Warehouse, would be "basically clean shells" containing a kitchen and bathroom to allow buyers to choose how they'd like to fit-out the space.

The use of commercial space on the ground floor of the Warehouse and a second building, the Shophouse, is not outlined in the application but could include anything from an accountancy firm to a hairdressing salon or bakery.

Mr Gasson said the village was designed for people to both live and work within.

Interestingly, Construction Control Canberra has hired two architectural firms, Cox Architecture and SPACELAB, to design the buildings, stringing together "inherent differences in style and approach".

Mr Gasson said the diverse group of designers were picked to produce a hub of interactivity, "not just a bland apartment development where each apartment is a 'carbon copy' of its neighbour".

"The big point of difference is this is a precinct rather than a block of flats," he said.

"We will be offering forward-thinking buyers photovoltaic power generation, charging points for electric cars, in-house energy storage systems, and the opportunity to have a completely custom designed apartment or terrace home."

Mr Gasson said the village's design would also draw on the area's industrial heritage.

"In its beginnings [the site] was criss-crossed with train lines that took men and materials to building sites such as old Parliament House and Albert Hall. Some of the remnant track sections are still there now," he said.

"Our team of young architects, landscape architects and planners see this industrial heritage as the core theme for Kingsborough and their designs bring this materiality and industrial edginess into the overall landscape master plan."

The first stage of the village, including the construction of terrace units, is scheduled for sale in March next year, pending development application approval.

Mr Gasson hoped the village's first five buildings were completed and operational by late 2016.

He said the dwellings would be priced within "the affordable end of the market".
