Leomar "Leo" Felix Carvalho, 71, was arrested on May 13 for allegedly obstructing access to the premises, after police were called to a disturbance.

Mr Carvalho appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday, when he pleaded not guilty to engaging in unreasonable obstruction of the Volvo truck at Barrow Place in Lyons.

Magistrate Robert Cook continued Mr Carvalho's bail and set the matter down for a hearing from October 13.

Mr Carvalho was taken into custody and later charged after he allegedly tried to stop a truck carrying a skip bin full of asbestos material leaving the street.

Police were initially called to the premises about 7am the day before, when he tried to stop contractors accessing his neighbour's house.

At the time Mr Carvalho told Fairfax Media he was "prepared to break the law" to protect his family and the workers from being contaminated by asbestos, after earlier alleging safety protocols were not being followed in the demolition of two Mr Fluffy houses neighbouring his Olympus Way home.

Son Ben Carvalho said his father had tried to stop a truck loaded with a skip from leaving until a representative from the CFMEU arrived.

Ben Carvalho said the situation escalated when the family woke at 7am on the Friday morning to find demolition contractors moving in, despite earlier promises they would delay work until 10am.

A spokeswoman for WorkSafe ACT said two inspectors had found no issues when they attended the property on Friday as part of routine checks.
