The Endeavour House Writer in Residence Program has announced its inaugural winner, historian Dr Naomi Parry. The Writer in Residence Program, supported by Endeavour House and The Australia Institute, provides a $2500 a week stipend for two weeks, office space and accommodation for an Australian writer to work from The Level at Endeavour House in Canberra.Dr Parry's winning residency project is a story about Aboriginal warrior Musquito, a second-generation, post-invasion narrative of a man displaced from his birth country to both Norfolk Island and Tasmania, his ongoing struggles with the new colonial order and his eventual career as a bushranger. Executive director of The Australia Institute Ben Oquist said, "Naomi Parry's proposal was backed by solid preliminary research and a clear vision for what would be achieved in the two weeks,"

February 4: Word for Word explores the languages of Australia's first peoples against the background of the Songlines exhibition with favourite words being introduced, defined and discussed. February 6: Fighting on All Fronts: The MHSA Battle Series Vol. 1, 1916 - 1917 edited by Paul Skrebels and David Pearson, celebrating 60 years of the Military History Society of Australia's contributions to the interpretation and discussion of Australia's military history, . will be launched at the National Library of Australia Bookshop at 6pm.
