The latest tragedy was a single vehicle accident at Jindabyne.
At 10.50am today, police and emergency services were called to the Alpine Way, about 10km west of Jindabyne, where a ute had crashed into an embankment.
The male driver of the ute was airlifted to The Canberra Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. His female passenger died at the scene.
A crime scene has been established on the Alpine Way with police and specialist forensic officers conducting examinations of the crash site.
The Alpine Way remains open with a contra flow in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area, delay their travels or consider alternate routes.
Police from Monaro Local Area Command are continuing their investigations into the crash and will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
