The passenger forecasts for the proposed Gungahlin light rail project, referred to in the business case and prepared by Veitch Lister Consultants, are now available and it is understandable why they were not released earlier. They show that, in 2021, the LRT will carry only 37 per cent of those travelling by public transport per day in the Gungahlin-to-City corridor, with the rest continuing to travelling by bus. They also show that, even in the morning peak hour, the tram will be only 59 per cent full if they run every three minutes as we are told. Further they show that the expected daily patronage by 2021 is only about 75 per cent of the figures that have previously been quoted.
