With 27 tennis courts, a gym, pool, bar and restaurant, and childcare, newly appointed Next Generation Clubs Canberra general manager Tony Fraser said it was more a "lifestyle club" than general sports centre.
"This is like a big country club. In Canberra, if you want to play tennis, go to a gym, you want to go to a restaurant, you go to those venues," Mr Fraser said, offering the media a preview on Wednesday. "[The new club] brings all this into one place and sets it apart from anything else that Canberra has ever seen."
Tennis ACT chief executive Ross Triffitt said the new tennis courts would host November "pro tour" tournaments and help in securing other events.
"With the Pro-Tour events we're going to be attracting professional players, probably from the top 100, which will be on the calendar every year," Mr Triffitt said. "Beyond that, we've got aspirations to host the Davis and Fed cups as well."
The development is being done by Tennis ACT and Next Generation Clubs, with some funding from the ACT government.
