Magical wedding at the National Gallery of Australia

Bella Insch and Mhera Nelson-Insch were married in the sculpture garden at the National Gallery of Australia on Friday, March 2, after winning a competition held as part of the Love and Desire: Pre-Raphaelite Masterpieces from the Tate exhibition.

Mhera, a pharmacy assistant, and Bella, an art therapist, won the $25,000 prize after telling their love story in 100 words or less.

The wedding had all the trappings - including reception in the Gandel Hall and bridal suite at the Realm Hotel - but it was a very personal touch that Bella will remember most.

"The thing I enjoyed the most was that Mhera organised this surprise flash mob with the bridesmaids and did this really gorgeous dance," she said.

It was a mix of love songs and humour, including Baby Shark, much to the delight of the four children they have between them. Manni, 13; Angelo, 12; Michael, 10; and Nina, 9; were all part of the ceremony.

"They walked us down the aisle, which was gorgeous," Bella said.

"It was such a beautiful day. A perfect day," Mhera said. "Just being surrounded by family and friends."

"And the location was gorgeous," Bella said.

The couple even snuck over to get a photo at Enlighten at the Neon Angel Wings installation, politely lining up in their wedding regalia and patiently waiting their turn with the rest of the first-night crowd.

"We skipped over there," Bella said. "We thought we were going to get in trouble because we didn't actually tell anyone we were going over there."

"I was like, 'Let's go. We can do whatever we want, it's our wedding'," Mhera said, with a laugh.

Mherea's sisters came over from the Philippines for the wedding and the couple hope to take their family over there for their honeymoon.
