A Canberra man accused of assaulting a family member allegedly told police the incident was of no consequence because she was his daughter.

The man faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday morning charged with assault.
The Iranian national, who is in Australia on a permanent visa, was arrested on Friday. Police allege the man attacked his 16-year-old daughter.
Prosecutors opposed bail, arguing the defendant's position of power over the complainant led to a risk of him reoffending.
The man is appearing in court later this year for a committal hearing on a charge of committing an act of indecency without consent, which the prosecution said also allegedly involved a complainant with some "vulnerability" compared to the defendant.
The court heard the man had made a statement about the alleged incident in which he said "it's OK, she's my daughter".
Magistrate Peter Dingwall said the inclusion of such a statement in the evidence was of some concern.
However, he granted the man bail on the basis he was a sole carer to his two children and the only income earner in his family.
He ordered the defendant comply with all reasonable directions and regular visits from care and protection services, and warned that any breach of bail could lead to him being remanded in custody.
The case was adjourned to July 29. The defendant has yet to enter a plea.
