Man fronts court, pleads not guilty to alleged Gungahlin murder

Joshua Higgins, 30, did not apply for bail and he was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

Mr Higgins has been charged with one count of allegedly murdering Jae-Ho Oh.

Speaking outside the court, Mr Higgins' defence lawyer Tom Taylor said a bail application may be made at a later date.

"Mr Higgins is entitled to the presumption of innocence and he’s entered a plea of not guilty and he’ll be defending the charge," Mr Taylor said.

"Bail wasn’t applied for but we may consider it at another time, when circumstances are probably more appropriate to apply for bail."

Mr Higgins was arrested after allegedly being involved in an altercation with Mr Oh at his home in the vicinity of Hall Best Lane and Wizard Street, Gungahlin about 2am on Monday, March 11.

Police attended the scene and found Mr Oh with critical injuries. He died at the scene, despite attempts by police to resuscitate him.

Mr Higgins was arrested near Manning Clarke Crescent, a short time after the alleged incident.

It is believed Mr Higgins and Mr Oh were known to each other.

Mr Taylor did not want to comment on the mental state of his client but did say it was a very serious scenario facing Mr Higgins.

"He’s been charged with murder and anyone charged with that type of offence would be under a significant amount of pressure," Mr Taylor said.

Mr Higgins' case will return to court in May.
