A 28-year-old Griffith man will face court on Saturday after he was interrupted allegedly attempting to set fire to a car parked in a driveway in Gungahlin.

Police said they received an urgent call for assistance at about 9.50am on Friday, after the alleged offender was seen attempting to set fire to a Toyota Kluger, parked at an Amaroo home.
After a man staying in the house approached the offender, officers said the 28-year-old struck out at the victim causing him to fall to the ground.
The Griffith resident then continued to try to set fire to the car before also trying to set fire to the power box of the house with a rolled up newspaper.
ACT Policing quickly arrived and took the 28-year-old into custody, while firefighters extinguished the blaze which had badly damaged the Toyota.
The man will appear in court this morning, charged with common assault, arson and attempted arson.
