Domestic violence survivor Marlene Tighe's story struck a chord with Australia and now the Yunin woman has become the newest Tara Costigan Foundation ambassador.

In 2013 she suffered horrific injuries at the hands of her partner who attacked her with a hammer. She lost an eye and required 11 metal plates in her face.
Ms Tighe, whose story was featured on ABC Television's 7.30 Report, will be a special guest at the TCF Inaugural Angel Gala Ball held at Hotel Realm in Canberra on Friday, August 5.
TCF founder and CEO Michael Costigan said Ms Tighe would share her powerful story at the gala.
He said choosing her as the special guest demonstrated the foundation's desire to unite all communities towards change.
"'Together we are strong' has to be all encompassing," Mr Costigan said.
"If we are going to change our culture to one of respect and tolerance then there is no better way than for us to be inclusive of all people from different community groups."
He said Ms Tighe's facial scars showed the devastating impact of domestic violence, but what was most captivating and perhaps the reason she was picked as the subject of an Archibald Prize portrait was her strength and beauty.
"When you first meet Marlene and you see the disfigurement to her face it is natural to be confronted – you can really see the damage that was done," he said.
"But the longer I sat with her and talked to her the obvious things started to fade away and you see she is a strong and beautiful lady with a beautiful heart."
