However, an ACT Supreme Court jury has found him guilty of manslaughter over Mr Carville's November 2015 death.
Marc Urlich – Milan Urlich's brother - was found not guilty of being an accessory after the fact.
The jury deliberated for much of Thursday and Friday before handing down its decision before Justice John Burns about 2pm.
The brothers exchanged glances, while family and supporters in the public gallery let out sighs of relief, as the jury returned its decision.
Before returning their verdict, Justice Burns reminded jurors they had the option to find Milan Urlich guilty of an alternative count of manslaughter.
Mr Carville's badly decomposed body was discovered by police on November 19, 2015.
An autopsy could not determine the cause of death, but the court heard that Mr Carville had suffered rib fractures and injuries to his neck consistent with strangulation.
A knife was found tucked into Mr Carville's pants.
Milan Urlich admitted he had killed the 52-year-old in Mr Carville's Evatt home about 10.30pm on November 4, 2015.
Milan Urlich had been part of a group of people helping a woman move out of Mr Carville's home at the time.
While at the house alone, he claimed Mr Carville had come at him with a knife and he had reacted by putting him in a choke hold.
Milan Urlich said he had held Mr Carville until he dropped the knife, only to discover he was dead.
He then wrapped Mr Carville's body in a rug, put it on his ute, and later dumped the vehicle in the paddock of a Sutton property, before stealing a van and fleeing to Marc Urlich’s Victorian home.
During the trial, the court heard that Milan Urlich had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Milan Urlich said he had "freaked out" after killing Mr Carville and followed instructions provided by "voices" in his head.
He said the voices had not told him to kill Mr Carville.
Milan Urlich had spent a number of days in Victoria before returning to Canberra with Marc Urlich.
It was alleged the pair had moved the body at night, hiding it under several heavy boulders in a dry creek bed on Defence land in Majura.
The ute was then dumped at Molonglo Gorge, in Kowen Pine Forest, with a failed attempt to set it alight.
During the trial, ACT deputy director of public prosecutions Shane Drumgold pointed to evidence from the autopsy that showed Mr Carville had suffered a fracture to a hyoid bone and thyroid cartilage in his neck, which could have been caused by a "pincer movement" of a hand placed around a throat.
Mr Drumgold said evidence had shown Mr Carville had not been an aggressive man, and attacking a man with a knife would have been out of character.
The senior prosecutor said the weight of the rocks to conceal Mr Carville's body, and the timing involved, showed Milan Urlich had not acted alone, and evidence pointed to Marc Urlich as an accessory.
Defence barrister, James Lawton, asked jurors to consider why Milan Urlich would want to kill Mr Carville as there had been no history of animosity or bad blood between the pair.
Mr Lawton said it was plausible that Mr Carville had heard Milan Urlich enter his house and decided to approach him, taking a knife with him.
Marc Urlich's barrister, James Sabharwal, argued there was no evidence to show his client had helped move the body, other than being in Canberra at the time.
After receiving the verdict, Justice Burns remanded Milan Urlich in custody to reappear in August for a sentence hearing on the manslaughter charge.
The judge ordered a pre-sentence and forensic mental health report be prepared for the hearing.
