'Misplaced courtesy' led to crash

A Toyota Camry and a Honda Civic collided in heavy traffic at the intersection with Batman Street about 5.25pm.

One passenger was taken to the Canberra Hospital as a precaution following the crash.

Police, fire and ambulance crews all attended the scene, with the roof of the Honda having to be cut from the car's body.

Sergeant Stuart Bonner of ACT Policing said the passenger taken to hospital had suspected internal injuries.

''We've had significant traffic flow with one lane of traffic stopped on Limestone Avenue, and in an act of misplaced courtesy another driver has allowed a car to go through and typically that vehicle hasn't been seen,'' he said.

''Misplaced courtesy is a common cause of accidents, with drivers stopping to give way to other cars in these kinds of situations.

''If a driver is presented with that situation … they should be very careful to make sure that all lanes of traffic have seen them before crossing through,'' he said.
