ACT Fire and Rescue crews responded to the corner of Flemington Road and Sandford Street shortly after 1.44pm to find the fire had been extinguished by maintenance crews who were working on the battery backup system for an elevator.
Hazmat teams have been deployed to ventilate the area due to the nature of the fire.
Atmospheric testing must be conducted before occupants are allowed to return.
