Denise and Bruce Morcombe today travelled through Canberra in the hope their tragedy can be used to prevent other Australian children from harm.

Their son went missing from his family home on the Sunshine Coast in December 2003, while waiting for a bus to buy Christmas presents.

He was never seen again.

West Australian man Brett Peter Cowan, 42, has since been charged with the boy's murder, as well as a host of other charges, and his case is nearing committal proceedings.

Daniel's parents have strongly campaigned to prevent crimes against children since their son's death, using the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to help educate and reform child safety.

Denise and Bruce today brought that campaign to the ACT taking their truck, named "Big Red" after the clothing Daniel was last seen in, on its first visit outside their home state.

The parents hope to use the truck to spread messages of child safety and awareness across the country, planning to eventually visit every school kid in the country.

Daniel and Bruce also sat through question time at Federal Parliament today, where MPs wore red to show their support.

"It's been a long nine years but we've had a lot of support from all different agencies and from the public Australia-wide, that's what helps us get through each day I suppose," Mrs Morcombe said.

"We get up each day not thinking we need to be courageous, we get up each day thinking what can we do to make a difference to protect kids," Mr Morcombe said.
