More people were sprung driving with drugs in their system than alcohol during a silly season blitz of the Barton Highway.
Police issued 55 driving infringements on the 52-kilometre highway during the last week of November and the first week of December.
An increased police presence on the Barton Highway resulted in 245 motorists breath tested but no positive readings.
Comparatively, four people were detected with drugs in their system out of the 44 tested.
Mobile drug tests can tell if a driver has recently used ecstasy, cannabis, speed and ice.
Thirty-two drivers were caught speeding while 10 were nabbed driving an unregistered vehicle.
Three infringements were issued to motorists overtaking across double lines and three for using a mobile phone while driving.
Yass Valley Council's road safety officer Melissa Weller said the results indicate motorists are heeding the "drink drive message".
"The breath testing result is pleasing, especially for this time of year when people are attending lots of celebrations and parties," she said.
But Sergeant Stephen Pidgeon of Yass Highway Patrol is taking the results with a grain of salt.
"There are clearly still a number of people out there who either don't realise or don't care how their dangerous driving is putting themselves and others at risk," he said.
The Christmas double demerit period begins on December 24 and ends January 3.
