Less than 24 hours after police pleaded with motorists to take care on Canberra's roads, a motorcyclist has sustained serious injuries in an early morning crash in the city's east.

Police say the man was travelling on Pialligo Avenue about 1.30am on Thursday morning when he crashed.
He was transported to Canberra Hospital with serious injuries.
A horror 24 hours on ACT roads prompted head of traffic operations Sergeant Susan Ball to urge travellers to exercise extra caution during the Christmas period on Wednesday.
Her warning came after it was revealed a 27-year-old man who was thrown from his vehicle after crashing over an embankment in Canberra's north on Tuesday night was not wearing a seatbelt.
It also followed the death of an 82-year-old woman almost one week after a smash on Yamba Drive at Farrer which killed her 84-year-old husband.
"We're now up to 13 fatalities for the year and no emergency services worker likes attending a serious collision or a fatality," Sergeant Ball said.
"None of us like standing in hospital wards with family members waiting for serious or sad news and we don't want to have to knock on your door this Christmas with the saddest news you'll ever hear."
The double demerit period begins on December 24.
