The convention, catering to anime lovers, comic book devourers, cosplayers, and computer gamers, attracted self-confessed nerds for a day of fun at the Hellenic Club in Woden.

Harrison School students Emily Duggan, 15 Katarina Fellows, 14, became some of the convention's most enthused attendees.

"We just decided to go because our friend was going and it turns out it was an awesome decision, we found so much stuff we like because we are both anime fans and video game fans," Emily said.

Emily also said they was glad to meet others who were into the same sub-cultures they were into.

"I didn't expect there would be so many people who are into Dr Who cosplay here, it's so great," she said.

Queanbeyan apprentice electrician and cosplayer, Andrew Piper, 22, said it took him months to sew and adjust his storm trooper outfit, including a few days fashioning hand armoury out of kitchen rubber gloves.

He said he was part of 501st international Star Wars costuming group.

"We do a lot of gigs at hospitals, cheer up sick kids, and otherwise we just get together and be a big bunch of nerds," Mr Piper said.

Others saw it as a good way to expand their circles and businesses.

Alicia Tainsh from Evatt, Erina O'Brien-Fletcher from Spence and Madeline Tranter, from Grialang, form Canberra Princesses and Friends, who perform at kids parties.

"It's really good for getting people on board with us, we're here so we can find people who are doing the same sort of thing. So it's a great way to get our name out there," Ms Tainsh said.
