Don't be surprised if it's someone from out of town, rather than one of our tried and true, ably-qualified local candidates such as Craig Allen or Siobhan Heanue. Allen has been filling in for Virginia Haussegger since she resigned last month and, for our money, seemed a shoo-in for the permanent newsreader gig.
But it doesn't end there. There is a further suggestion that the ABC Canberra newsreader might actually be performing a dual TV-radio role.
We've heard the newsreader for the 7pm TV news will also be presenting the breakfast shift on 666 ABC Radio - the slot vacated by Philip Clark - which could all add up to a very long day for the successful candidate.
Sounds a little out-there, but the workforce at Aunty is having to get used to significant upheaval in the workplace, with multiple presenter and content changes announced by ABC Radio on Wednesday.
However, ABC Radio management chose not to include in its long list of announcements on Wednesday the planned line-up for ABC 666 Canberra, only saying it would be revealed "in the coming weeks".
Other line-up changes will be inevitable on 666 next year, with much-loved presenter Alex Sloan also retiring, her last shift being on December 9.
The changes come on top of the likely downgrading of ABC's Parliament House studio and other cuts across Aunty which has left some staff feeling "shellshocked", according to one insider.
