Oktoberfest Parklands will be a one day volkfest on Saturday October 14, held in a tent on Patrick White Lawns in Parkes.

Co-founder Jeff Drake said the Oktoberfest Parklands will be like the traditional German event, with Australian touches.

"We want to take those traditions of the huge beer hall, the long wooden tables that everyone sits at together, and build it around the food and beer culture," he said.

"We will have an oompah-style band, to deliver the same musical singalong environment where you embrace you friends, dress up, and get lost in the day. I think music is a huge part of what makes Oktoberfest, Oktoberfest, and we will provide a guide on how to learn the songs.

"We're combining that with what you can get out of Australia which is beautiful weather, beautiful grasslands, beautiful lake, and some Australian food and drinks. So for us it's the meeting of the traditional with embracing the Australian side of things as well."

The over 18s event will include an outdoor Bavarian food truck village, with pork knuckles, bratwurst, schnitzels and pretzels all on the menu, plus rides, traditional dancers and a DJ.

"You can skip the pork knuckle if that's not your thing - the only thing we do ask is that you dress up," Mr Drake said.

Oktoberfest Parklands is run by Kicks Entertainment, the team behind Spilt Milk music festival and The Commons Street Feast that ran in Commonwealth Park in December last year.

And it won't be the only Oktoberfest for Canberra this year.

The Harmonie German Club's Oktoberfest, which has run in the capital for 50 years, is on October 27-29.

The event will this year move to a new location in Queanbeyan, after organisers say they were forced to move due to dramatically increasing fees at its former home of Exhibition Park. The Queanbeyan event is all ages and includes a family day on the Sunday.
