D'Angelo and some funny country music songs. Also, a whole bunch of bands we heard at BIGSOUND such as Gordi (she's super talented) and Jesse Davidson ... too many to count!
Why did you choose the name Wallflower?
I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower and at the time I felt that the description of a Wallflower fit me, so, we just went with that for the band name.
Describe your sound?
Pop music that's been sent to outer space, washed with a dirty old rag and sprinkled with artificial sweetener.
Tell us something about where you grew up and how it influenced your sound?
Canberra gets pretty cold, a lot of time spent indoors has meant a lot of screwing around with effects pedals to make interesting sounds.
What's your earliest musical moment?
Listening to my brother play Wild Thing on guitar and wishing I was him.
How do you prepare for a gig?
Ben gives us a prep talk and we share a single VB.
What's your favourite post-gig pastime?
Having a single VB between the band.
What's the greatest thing you have seen on stage?
A man drinking a single VB and cheering us from the bar.
What's your best piece of touring advice?
Bring Coles Chocolate Chip Cookies and your iMac (Henry actually did that this tour), also don't take yourselves too seriously!
Who are your musical heroes?
The Beatles, Coldplay, D'Angelo, Bibio, Miles Davis, Bon Iver, Kanye West ... too many to say!
What's on your dream rider?
A single VB (canned).
Who would you most like to tour with?
Nothing could be better than touring with NONIE again, its been a party. Only way it could be better is if we had a single VB on the road with us
What was your musical epiphany?
Becoming really critical of yourself is really helpful to getting your songwriting chops improving, I think that's been the best thing for me and I encourage everyone to do it too, just make sure you don't beat yourself up about it!
What does the future hold?
We'd absolutely love to tour again!
What's the most glamorous place you have performed?
At the Botanic Gardens supporting Eskimo Joe.
What's the most forgettable?
Spilling a drink on the mixer at Hippo Co. and having to finish the gig unplugged.
What's your favourite game on the tour bus?
Taking pictures of people when they fall asleep.
What's your worst habit on the road?
Overpacking!
What's your tour van of choice?
Vincent Van Gogh (Vinnie, our tour bus).
