What are you listening to on the road?
On the road I love listening to different artists. Like now I'm hooked on a mix tape that I made and you'll find: Buika, Disclosure, Emily King, Frank Ocean, Gorillaz, London Grammar, Stromae, Piano Sonata No. 14 in C Sharp Minor, Liz Wright, Grant Green and Bob Marley.
Tell us a bit about La Folie Douce ...
La Folie Douce are places in the French alps, where you can have French gastronomy, a French cabaret-style revue, and a crazy after-ski clubbing atmosphere featuring DJ, singers, musicians and dancers. We're excited G.H. Mumm has brought us here for Thredbo's Top2Bottom race week to raise the limits of celebration in Australia to a level never experienced before. Partygoers can enjoy a series of free high-energy, high-altitude show-stopping performances.
What's your earliest musical moment?
My parents told me that before even being able to talk, I could sing clearly identifiable hit melodies.
How do you prepare for a gig?
I meditate and I make sure I call the universe to use me as a healer for the public in the room.
What's your favourite post-gig pastime?
Chill with my people and make love.
What's the greatest thing you have seen on stage?
Michael Jackson!!! Yeah baby the master himself!!!
What's your best piece of touring advice?
Let me be the doctor of hearts and souls.
Who are your musical heroes?
There is too many of them to just quote one. I just love music, and in all musical style, I always find a piece that I'm going to love.
What's on your dream rider?
May humanity live in peace, love and harmony! Something great about music, I can take you there ...
Who would you most like to tour with?
For me sharing and giving is the most important. I could tour with anyone as long as we are in the same dimension.
What was your musical epiphany?
When one of my friends at the age of 12, during music class told the teacher that it was obvious for the rest of the class that I would be a singer.
Then few years later, in high school, Olivier Nakache, director to the French movie Les Intouchables said with a video camera in his hands: "Remember this! One day I'll be a great film director, and Ange will be a great singer".
Describe your sound?
I'm counter alto with quite a huge range, that sings gospel, soul, jazz, pop rock. This is mostly what is required to be the king of voice, the musician like in electro music. I sound black and white at the same time. I have a powerful voice blessed with nuances and shades.
Tell us something about where you grew up and how it influenced your sound?
I was born in Africa, grew up in Europe, and lived in America. That specific blend that I'm made of allows me to have a particular sound.
What would you be doing if you weren't a musician?
Probably a doctor because I'm a caretaker. But as I said before, I'm a doctor of hearts and souls.
What is something we don't know about you?
You don't know anything about me! And you know everything about me! Just give a real look and you'll know what you need to know.
What does the future hold?
The future holds a lot in terms of touring, travelling, giving, receiving and mostly sharing with people around the world.
La Folie Douce is a group of DJs, singers and dancers incorporating cabaret mixed with street theatre who will provide a series of free high-energy, high-altitude, show-stopping performances to Australia during Thredbo's 25th Top2Bottom weekend August 6 to 9.
