Paramedics in the ACT will come under the new national registration scheme from late next year, after the government officially adopted the framework on Tuesday.

Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris tabled the reforms in the Legislative Assembly, bringing laws to ensure the ACT meets the requirements of the national scheme once it starts operating.
The reforms were part of a COAG agreement reached earlier this year to help ensure all states and territories met the same standards, and make it easier for paramedics who move interstate as their registration will be valid nationally.
"As part of this, the most significant reform is the national registration and regulation of paramedics, which not only recognises the increasing responsibilities of paramedics but also provides extra protections for patients to continue to receive the best possible care," Ms Fitzharris said
She said it would also help ensure all paramedics are qualified to stop any unqualified paramedics from using the title and create new powers to deal with professional misconduct by paramedics.
The federal governments expects the scheme will start operating late next year.
