If you haven't got your entry in for the Canberra Times spring photo competition yet, fear not - Weatherzone meteorologist Guy Dixon said the weather will be in your corner over the next month or two.
"In the coming days we should have the minimum temperature drop to 1 degree in the early hours of the morning in the ACT which should give rise to patchy frost and areas of low-lying fog, which is an opportunity for amateur photographers to get some really interesting morning shots," Mr Dixon said.
"In the longer term, spring is a transition season so we should see increased thunderstorm activity. In the afternoons we should see explosive convections leading to rain, hail and active lightning. Over October and November there should be a number of opportunities for those systems to develop and for photographers to grab thunderstorm pictures."
Amateur snapper Bradley Schultz, who captured sun beams streaming down upon the arboretum for his photo competition entry, said he sometimes shoots in the company of his two-year-old son Josh.
He said the toddler enjoys playing around with a toy camera of his own, just like his dad.
Timing was key for Victoria Eccles, who snapped this cracker at a Cairns estuary as a sea eagle was coming in for his regular feed from a fishing charter provider named Darryl.
"He missed his chance but the photo on the iPhone was a lovely glimpse of his frustration," she said.
Green-fingered June Furbank-Savill also proved pretty handy with a camera, photographing the interplay of light and shadow on the snowdrops which have popped up in her yard.
"This is the first spring in my garden so each rising flower or bulb is a joy," she said.
The Canberra Times spring photo competition will remain open until the last day of November and anyone is free to enter for a chance to win a share of $1000 in prizes. A maximum of three photos an entrant can be submitted as JPEG attachments to photocomp@canberratimes.com.au.
